Term 1 Week 7

Central Idea: We all mature throughout life and need to take care of ourselves as we change.

Line of Inquiry: The things that support our well-being during adolescence.

The video, How to Handle Gossip and Rumours on GetEpic was really helpful in learning more about our social development as we go develop into young adults.  We each had the opportunity to talk with a teacher of our choice to ask questions about well-being during adolescence.  We then wrote advice for others about how to take care of oneself while growing through adolescence.

This week we started learning about the digestive system. On Thursday, we had an opportunity to look at a pig stomach. We looked closely and talked about what we saw. We began to understand more about how it actually works.

In this picture, we were wondering about its shape and the fact that the inside and outside of it are different. We began to understand the function of the stomach lining; it makes digestive juices to break down the food.

The liver was very different in texture and colour. Using magnifying glasses we were about to see tiny holes and tubes. We are now doing  some research to learn about what they might be.

This bag of liquid shows an investigation we did into how food is broken down. We were trying to imagine just how the food in the stomach is broken down.

After that, we began to read the book called Science Explorer: Digestion on GetEpic website. We learnt a lot more about how the digestive system functions.

For English, we had an opportunity to look at some grammar lessons. The Past Simple Tense and Present Perfect Tense were the ones that we focused on this week. We felt more confident to write and speak as these tenses correctly.

Maths

This week has been the final week to work on our Maths statistics project. The students have been back into the classrooms to present their research and findings across the school. On Friday, they presented their research and findings as a whole class to Mr. Scott and Ms. Charlotte, who are on the school's menu committee. The students have worked really hard on this project and developed skills including research, analysis and presenting and also built on their confidence.

We completed a team-building exercise where the students were placed into groups at random. The aim was for them to work together to cut out the puzzle pieces and put them together to create a multiplication table. The purpose of the task was to make them realise that sometimes we need to take our time in order to achieve the answer. It was not a race! This encouraged the students to use effective communication, whilst also thinking about their multiplication knowledge to solve the problem. Some found it more difficult than others, but on reflection enjoyed the problem-solving task and have asked to do more in the future.

We started to look at conversion between fractions, decimals and percentages. Next week, we will be looking at changing between fractions, decimals and percentages and finding the simplest form as well as equivalence.

Thai

In our class this week, we have been focusing on conjunctions. We learnt more deeply about each conjunction and how we can use it in a sentence. We have had a great time to practise our Thai language skills. In out TAL class, we have looked at days, months, and some consonants. Question making was one of the lessons we focused on.

Term 1 Week 6

Central Idea : We all mature throughout life and need to take care of ourselves as we change.

Line of Inquiry this week: the things that support our well-being during adolescence

This week, we have been learning more deeply about respiratory system. We have found out a lot more information about this interesting system of our bodies. Most importantly we realised how delicate the lungs are, and so we have to take care of them and avoid breathing smoke and germs. After seeing the real lungs we now understand the danger of smoking.

After learning, we reflected on our knowledge by using the programme called Screencast-O-Matic. This programme is simply for recording the screen or video. We were able to edit the video as well. Please ask your child about this. You'll enjoy seeing these.

English: We recently wrote an information report about the Circulatory system and Ms. Cynthia gave us a lot of support. This week the writing became more challenging because we had to independently write an information report on the respiratory system. It was a challenge because were left to do it quietly without much teacher support.

The book called,'Just Between Us' is an enjoyable way to learn about building good relationships as we get older. The characters deal with the issue of keeping secrets and gossiping. These things tie in with the things we're learning about growing up.

Maths

This week, we have only had 4 out of our usual 6 Maths lessons due to Wai Kru Day. However, we have still worked hard.

Our presentations for the research project are ready to present next week. Each pair will go and visit their researched class again on either Monday or Tuesday to present their findings. In addition, Mr.Scott and Ms.Charlotte (members of the menu committee) will be joining us in Friday's lesson for the whole class to present their findings.

We have also been looking at mean, mode, median and range and how we can use these methods to find out average, frequency and difference. Year 7 have said they have enjoyed revising mean and gaining new knowledge about mode, median and range.

Next week, we are going begin to look at fraction and decimal equivalents and how to convert them. This will then allow us to move into fraction, decimal and percentage equivalence.

Term 1 Week 5

We are now into the fifth week of our new school year. We are working together happily as a class and really enjoying all of the new learning experiences. Here is an overview of the week:

Central Idea : We all mature throughout life and need to take care of ourselves as we change.

Line of Inquiry this week: The things that support our well being as we grow.

This is related to our science curriculum. The main focus has been inquiring into the respiratory system and its relationship to the circulatory system. We've learned a lot from the above video this week. Learners asked, "What happens if you smoke?" The answer was clear to them when they saw inside of some real lungs. We saw that the smoke would go deeply into the little air sacs and obstruct airflow. There was no need for the teachers to tell them not to smoke.

Written English work has been linked to science. We are continuing with the information text style of writing. Lots of research from books was necessary to support this work. The information books provided high-quality examples of how an information text is organised.  The writing serves as a form of assessment, and so these will be added to the portfolios with a checklist showing how well they are written.

Maths:

This week in Maths, we have been finishing our research posters ready to present next week to the different classes as we come to a close on our Y7 research project. In addition, we have been developing and applying our understanding with ascending and descending with decimals. We have then used this knowledge for reasoning and fluency through word problems. They found it tough to begin with, but once discussed and strategies were shown on how to approach this, everyone grasped the concept.

Next week, we will be doing our presentations to each of the classes about our research, ordering and position integers including decimals on a number line and looking at mean, mode, median and range.

Thai language:
Students have been learning about how to use prepositions this week. In the photograph they are playing a game to practice using them. Students have also been practicing for the Wai Kru ceremony which will be next Thursday.

Term 1 Week 4

Central Idea : We all mature throughout life and need to take care of ourselves as we change.

Line of Inquiry : The physical, social & emotional changes that occur throughout life

This week we have been learning about how to write an information report. The focus was the
circulatory system. We started by reading and doing some research. It was quite challenging at
first to read, but as we read more and more we started to find more information and absorb it into
our brains. After around two or three days we started to work on writing down our information
and things we remembered. We went back to check at least three to four times and once we are
sure about it, we let our homeroom teacher, Ms.Cynthia check it again for the final edit.  At the end
of the week we began to make clay model of the heart. We will continue this next week. The aim
is to be able to talk about how it works.

Puberty

We were able to learn more about our bodies and how they will change as they grow older.
This week was especially good because a doctor  was able to make it to class. His name is
Doctor Gong and he studies the cells of babies before they are born. He taught the class about
the transformation of our bodies and how we can cope with ourselves during this time. He showed
us short videos of cartoons so we could relate to the characters and have a little laugh in the making.

Maths
This week were learning about rounding numbers and we working on rounding number in a
worksheet. Miss Charlie helped us with our estimation questions.miss charlie bring a A3 paper
with a question about rounding number in it.we separate in a group with 5 people and working in
a worksheet.and let other group check our work.

Drama
In drama we made notes about music and history. We played on a show
which we wrote about our characters. We were able to pretend to be that character in our real life.
We were put into situations that would put us in confusion. We had to try and keep the scene alive
and interesting.
